Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes a child’s right to optimal health. Our aim as GTP is to help realize that statement world-wide.
Who we are
We are a network of paediatricians and other specialists, health scientists and nurses working to improve the quality of preventive and curative paediatric care in resource-limited countries.
The Society for Tropical Paediatrics and International Child Health (GTP) e.V. was founded in 1983 as a working group of the German Society for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and has been a registered non-profit association since 2003. We changed the original name – Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Tropenpädiatrie (ATP) – in 2015 to better reflect the focus of our professional society – child health issues beyond the field of tropical medicine.

We stand up for the right of children to health. We accompany partnerships and projects in clinical and research settings and support training and professional exchange in the field of global child health.

International collaborations
We work closely with national and international societies and institutions involved in tropical paediatric issues and international child health, whether scientific or practical-clinical. Partners are i.e. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Tropenmedizin und Internationale Gesundheit (DTG), die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinder- und Jugendmedizin (DGKJ) and the Forum für Internationale Gesundheit (Foring). We are mombers of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) and serve as contact and competence partners for other societies and sending organisations in Germany and internationally.
