The 38th GTP annual conference is hosted by the paediatric department “Josephinchen” of the St. Joseph Krankenhauses in Berlin-Tempelhof under supervision of Dr. Beatrix Schmidt, head of deparment, as well as Dr. Sarah Kotsias-Konopelska, vice chairwoman of the GTP.
Welcome address
We are pleased to invite you to Berlin for our 38th annual conference of the German Society of Tropical Paediatrics and International Child Health.
We will address the topic of „Gender Aspects of Global Child Health“ from January 24th-26th 2020 at the UFA Fabrik in Berlin-Tempelhof. The conference programme will consist of various workshops, interesting talks by renowned speakers as well as submitted abstracts. Gender specific aspects of global child health will be presented to you from a medical as well as sociocultural point of view in an international as well as local context.
Join us for our social dinner on Saturday, January 26th 2020! After a delicious meal the live band „Echte Ärzte“ (www.echte-aerzte.de) will have us dance and party.

We are interested in hearing about your research, projects, relevant clinical work, etc. regarding “gender aspects of global child health” (abstract session 1) or about general issues regarding tropical paediatrics and global child health (abstract session 2).
Authors of accepted abstracts receive a 50% discount of the conference fee (students enter for free).
Accepted abstracts become eligible for the Helmut Wolff Prize.

This 5-day-course on Tropical Paediatrics and Global Child health was initiated in 2010 and has ever since taken place and been developed further on a yearly basis. It addresses the most important medical, intercultural, political and infrastructural aspects of Global Child Health.

We cordially invite you to participate in our Intensive Course on Tropical Paediatrics and Global Child Health.
Once again we will provide you with a diverse course schedule containing lectures, practical workshops and clinical seminar. Furthermore there will be enough time for professional international exchange of plans and experiences.
As time goes by we will provide you with further details about the schedule and lecturers. Arrival will be possible from Sunday 5pm onwards. There will be dinner and access to your rooms. A good first opportunity to explore the castle grounds and extablish contacts. The official course program starts on Monday 8:30 am and ends on Friday 2 pm.

Fee and application
The course fee includes participation in the course, course materials, accommodation, food and coffee breaks for 5 days.

The course is taking place at Schloß Rauischholzhausen which is the conference center of the University of Gießen. We are happy to be able to host our course at this historical and beautiful site. It offers learning space and accommodation combined in the same building and due to the affiliation with the University the prices are fair. A good variety of seminar rooms compliment our course concept of combining lectures with small group activities. Moving our course to this location in 2016 has proven to have been worthwhile.

Topic: "New horizons in research, education and practice!
The 37th Annual Meeting of the Society for Tropical Paediatrics and International Child Health (GTP) e.V. will take place from 25 - 27 January 2019 at Witten/Herdecke University. Every year, more than 200 national and international participants from various health professions meet at these conferences to inform themselves and exchange information on current topics of research and education. Concrete projects in tropical pediatrics and international child health in resource-limited countries are presented and discussed. The conference organisor is Prof. Dr. Ralf Weigel, Friede-Springer-endowed professorship for Global Child Health
This year's motto of the conference is "New horizons in research, education and practice” and once again provides an opportunity for important professional impulses. In addition to various workshops, you can expect presentations by renowned paediatricians such as Professor Anthony Costello (former Director of the Institute for Global Health at University College London and the Department of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health at the WHO in Geneva), Professor Michaël Boele van Hensbroek (Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development) and Dr. Bhanu Williams (International Officer at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK). The program includes the topics:

A special artistic framework is going to give the scientific discussions a further perspective.

Abstract submission
The scientific programme lives from the contributions of the participants. Therefore, we invite interested parties to submit an abstract for a presentation or poster on one of the topics mentioned above by November 15th, 2018. The website for submitting abstracts is linked HERE. For the presenter of an abstract that has been selected for an oral presentation the conference fee will be waived (category students and other health professions) or reduced by 50% (participants of all other categories).
All accepted abstracts will be published in the electronic version of the Journal Monatsschrift für Kinderheilkunde.

ETAT+ training 2018
The concept ETAT
ETAT (Emergency Triage and Treatment) and ETAT+ are concepts for triage and first care of sick children, developed in countries with limited resources in Africa. They have a proven effect on mortality reduction and can be applied in health care institutions of all levels.
In many places, ETAT is the cornerstone of decision making at first contact with a patient, that does not necessarily have to be effected by medical personnel.
ETAT guidelines are specifically aligned to common problems in the paediatric basic emergency care of in institutions with limited resources. The guidelines identify children suffering from acute life threatening conditions in a structured and comprehensible manner and present simple yet clear guidelines for their medical care.
The course
The working group ETAT emerged within GTP on the initiative of three alumni of the Intensive Course on Tropical Paediatrics (TropPaed), who have experienced the clinical significance of ETAT on various missions abroad. They have been trained as tutors and have lead trainings abroad. We would now like to make this concept available by offering a course in Germany as well.
The first of such courses will be held from 13 to 15 Juli 2018 at Witten/Herdecke University. Primary target group are doctors and nurses preparing for a medical mission abroad. Potentially, medical students preparing for a mission of several months can also benefit from the course.

36. GTP-Jahrestagung 2018: Das besonders gefährdete Kind
Die 36. Tagung der GTP findet vom 2. bis 4. Februar 2018 in Dinslaken statt und wird von Dr. Katja van’t Ende und Dr. Christian Schmidt im Ledigenheim Dinslaken ausgerichtet.
Kinderärzte und kinderheilkundlich Interessierte aus Deutschland und angrenzenden Ländern sowie zahlreiche Gäste aus verschiedenen Ländern mit limitierten Ressourcen erleben hier einen spannenden Austausch über klinische-praktische und wissenschaftliche Aspekte der globalen Kindergesundheit.
Wir freuen uns, dass wir 2018 am Anreisetag verschiedene Workshops, zum Beispiel zu pflegerischen Aspekten anbieten können.

Intensivkurs Tropenpädiatrie & internationale Kindergesundheit vom 4. bis 9. Februar 2018
Der Kurs richtet sich hauptsächlich an Ärzte, es gibt jedes Jahr jedoch einige Plätze für geeignete Pflegekräfte, Hebammen und Angehörige weiterer themenrelevanter Berufsgruppen. Die Kurssprache ist Englisch. Die Teilnehmerzahl ist auf 50 begrenzt. Voraussetzungen für die Teilnahme sind neben der Zugehörigkeit zu einer relevanten Berufsgruppe ausreichende Englischkenntnisse, Interesse am Kursinhalt und die Motivation, die neu erworbenen Kenntnisse in einem Land mit limitierten Ressourcen anzuwenden und weiterzugeben. Der Kurs ist von der European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID espid.org) gefördert.
Der wunderschöne historische Veranstaltungsort (eine Tagungs- & Fortbildungsstätte der Universität Gießen) bietet die Möglichkeit, alle an einem Ort und zu fairen finanziellen Bedingungen unterzubringen. Die vielseitigen Räume werden unserem Kurskonzept von Vorträgen in Kombination mit Kleingruppenarbeit gerecht.

Seit 2015 reservieren wir einen Teil der Plätze für Kollegen aus ressourcen-limitierten Ländern. Ziel ist es, aus dem Erfahrungsschatz dieser Teilnehmer zu lernen und einen regen internationalen Informationsaustausch anzubieten. Dieses Vorgehen hat sich bislang äußerst bewährt. Die Vorschläge für Kollegen aus entsprechenden Ländern stammen aus der GTP-Mitgliedschaft und werden vom Kurskommittee geprüft. Voraussetzungen für eine Einladung sind relevante Erfahrungen, Interesse am Kursinhalt hat und die Motivation, die neu erworbenen Kenntnisse im Heimatland anzuwenden und weiterzugeben.
Die Kursgebühr beinhaltet Kursteilnahme, Unterkunft und Mahlzeiten für 5 Tage sowie diverse Kursmaterialien. Die Unterkunft erfolgt in Ein- oder Zweibettzimmern im Schloss Rauischholzhausen. Präferenzen zu Zimmernachbarn o.ä. werden nach Möglichkeit berücksichtigt, sofern bei der Registrierung angegeben.
